On July 2, the hit Netflix show's official Twitter account announced that "Lesley Manville will play Princess Margaret in the fifth season of The Crown."
The five-time BAFTA Award nominee, 64, who earned a best supporting actress Oscar nod for her performance in 2017's "The Phantom Thread," will take over the role of Queen Elizabeth II's younger sister from Helena Bonham Carter, 54, who played the royal on season 3 and will reprise the role on season 4. Helena took over for Vanessa Kirby, 32, who brought young Margaret to life on seasons 1 and 2.
"I could not be happier to be playing Princess Margaret. The baton is being passed on from two formidable actresses and I really don't want to let the side down," Lesley said in a quote posted to the award-winning Netflix series' Twitter account, adding, "Furthermore, to play siblings with my dear friend Imelda Staunton will be nothing short of a complete joy."

In January, "The Crown" announced that Imelda, 64 — an Oscar, Golden Globe, Emmy and BAFTA Award nominee — would be playing the queen on season 5, taking over for current monarch Olivia Colman, 46, who took over for Claire Foy, 36.
Lesley, a noted theater actress who's an Olivier Award winner, most recently starred on the BBC's "Mum" and on shows like Hulu's "Harlots." She and Imelda have worked together before: Both appeared on the series "Cranford" and in the films "Another Year," "Vera Drake" and Disney's "Maleficent" movies.

Season 4 of "The Crown" finished filming before coronavirus lockdowns began and is expected to debut on Netflix in late 2020. A timeline has yet to be announced for Lesley and Imelda's season 5.
Lesley shares a son, Alfie, with ex-husband Gary Oldman.
